Empurro a porta

Empurro a porta, experimento a chave, encosto o tapete
à parede, entro pelas traseiras. Na casa há um momento
em que não há tempo, eu fico de pé sem me mexer e a luz
diminui, de gabardina, de pé, na casa quase vazia, de mala
na mão, sou um homem filmado de todos os ângulos.

O gato, o cão, o inominável insecto, todos saúdam a minha cara
baixa, com dois olhos distraídos e um nariz afunilado.
Só a expressão dessa cara não engana que o rol das frustrações
já nem aumenta, é. E como é de tarde, ponho-me a pensar
que de tarde é que é bom e há já uns bons anos que nunca mais.

Uma culpa sente-se nas paredes molhadas enquanto demoro
ainda mais tempo atirar a gabardina, poisar a mala. Contudo,
como se tivesse olhos na nuca, vejo a toda a volta o silêncio.
Eis o meu pequeno mundo vazio, mundo tão mentiroso como eu,
aqui não há dúvida de que cada palavra rola, metálica,
até encontrar a linha resistente, cadeira onde se instale.

Algum tempo demorarão os ossos a cair, se a morte tivesse
surpresa e o meu corpo deslizasse em olhos de sangue
e impaciência pela parede ainda nova e fresca de tintas brancas.
Ao dar finalmente um pequeno passo, sinto-me segmento
de fragmento, distância semeada por justos contemporâneos.

Words

Be careful of words,
even the miraculous ones.
For the miraculous we do our best,
sometimes they swarm like insects
and leave not a sting but a kiss.
They can be as good as fingers.
They can be as trusty as the rock
you stick your bottom on.
But they can be both daisies and bruises.

Yet I am in love with words.
They are doves falling out of the ceiling.
They are six holy oranges sitting in my lap.
They are the trees, the legs of summer,
and the sun, its passionate face.

Yet often they fail me.
I have so much I want to say,
so many stories, images, proverbs, etc.
But the words aren't good enough,
the wrong ones kiss me.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
but with the wings of a wren.

But I try to take care
and be gentle to them.
Words and eggs must be handled with care.
Once broken they are impossible
things to repair.
